Review of Raise My Ebenezer by Jennifer Q Hunt

Jennifer Q Hunt is a friend of mine (and fellow Christian Mommy Writer who is also a gifted writer of Christian historical fiction with romance that will have you crying one minute, laughing the next, and then swooning. Check out my review below.

Raise My Ebenezer is a historical Christian fiction with romance set during the time of the trail of tears by Jennifer Q Hunt.

The depths of my emotions in this book went from the highest high to the lowest low.

So many parts of this story broke my heart and made me think “how could they go on?” It put much of my own “suffering” into perspective.

Jennifer did a good job showing both the hardships and the joys of life during this difficult time and highlighted it by using the verse from 1 Samuel 7:12 (ESV)

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen and called its name Ebenezer; for he said, “Till now the LORD has helped us.”

This is a sequel to Some Melodious Sonnet and is best read after it. Both are excellent and will draw you closer to God as you are reminded what matters in eternity. I can’t recommend it enough.

Blurb:

I feel sometimes my heart will break asunder with sorrow for my people. And if I felt torn before as to whether I am Leelah Mackay or Galilahi Ahoka, how much more do I feel at complete odds now that I watch my people in disharmony with each other? Who am I, and where do I belong?

When Oliver Bradley meets the lovely Leelah Mackay, his dreams for the future become more than merely overcoming his checkered past. Facing battles literal and spiritual, he works for years to build a life worthy of the young woman who has captured his heart.

As her people face forced deportation west, Leelah chooses to remain in Georgia through marriage to the white man she has grown to love. But a series of injustices upends all of Oliver and Leelah’s plans and steals everything they cherish. Will they ever get the chance to create a home together?

This moving sequel to Some Melodious Sonnet offers a story of hope and God’s faithfulness against the devastating events of the Trail of Tears.
