I can't wait to jump into this interview with my good friend and fellow Christian Mommy Writer, author Latisha Sexton! In fact, I believe she's the one who introduced me to Christian Mommy Writers. She's also part of another writers' group I'm in that meets once a month, and I am so thankful to know her. I should mention she reads so widely across the Christian fiction genres that she's a wealth of knowledge. Latisha has written 7 books: three are in multiauthor series (two in a hockey series and another in the Give a Bookish Girl a Biker Series), two are a Christian romantic suspense duology-the In the Midst of Series, one is a romcom--Bram Baxter Marries the Wrong Sister, and last but probably one of my favorites is Neverending Mercy (Christian fiction with romance). All of her books have faith elements.

  1.  Tell us a bit about yourself! Where you’re from, your family, hobbies, favorite things—anything fun you’d like to share! I'm a Christian first and foremost, a wife, second-generation homeschooling mom of three, and Kentucky-born and raised. Books are my passion (whether reading or writing). Even though my favorite genres to read are historical and fantasy, I write contemporary Christian romance where grit meets grace. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to dip my toes into writing a historical or fantasy! 
  2. When did you feel called to become an author? Why do you write? Do you have a favorite writing verse? 

     In 2021, I had rediscovered my love of reading and one day this story just would not leave me alone (it became my debut, In the Midst of the Storm) and I decided to give it a try even though I had never enjoyed writing in school. I write to make His name known through flawed characters, messy stories, and God's amazing mercy and grace. My writing verses are Psalm 40: 8-10:


    I delight to do your will, O my God;

        your law is within my heart.”

    I have told the glad news of deliverance[a]

        in the great congregation;

    behold, I have not restrained my lips,

        as you know, O Lord.

    I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;

        I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;

    I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness

        from the great congregation. 

  3.  What is your favorite book that you’ve written and why? Picking a favorite book I've written is like picking a favorite kid. I love them all for different reasons. 
  4. Tell us about what you are working on now and when you expect your next book to come out. I'm working on a secret project that I can't give too many details about. I'm hoping to have it ready to publish late fall. I'm also hoping to work on another book and release it by late summer/early fall, but we'll see!

  A couple of weeks ago I returned from a fabulous time with some of my favorite people at the Christian Mommy Writer's retreat! We have around 100 of us scattered around the world, though we're primarily in the USA, and it's such an amazing group of authors who are navigating juggling family life, serving the Lord, and glorifying Him in our writing. Many of the books I review and recommend are by these amazing ladies. At the retreat we had classes where we heard from a number of different authors who spoke on our writing craft, marketing, and balancing all of our jobs. One of the most special times we had each day was our morning devotional and worship time. We also spent plenty of time catching up in person on life and writing, sharing ideas, and of course writing. Review of Sowing Hope by Heather Wood

  My review of Sowing Hope: Sowing Hope by Heather Wood will take you on a journey as you follow along with Patrick Gallagher in 1836 on his path from Maryland to Missouri to work with Elijah Lovejoy a famous abolitionist (a real historical figure). Along the way you’ll also meet Anna Markland and find out the mysteries she holds as their lives intersect. This book places you right in the action—including the hardships of the time, difficulties for abolitionists and black Americans, and the spiritual battle that took place among it all as Heather Wood weaves together an excellent Christian Historical Fiction story that is filled with so much fact and many real people that it’s hard to imagine her fictional characters weren’t really there. FOS 13 Self Control (and the end of Gentleness)

James 3:13-18 ESV - Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle , open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits , impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. Meekness has overlapping meaning with gentleness, so in this James passage we see gentle used two different ways. Each way comes from a different Greek word in the original scripture and in this translation they are translated as meekness and gentleness.
