Review of As You Were by Hannah Hood Lucero
Read my review below:
As You Were is a Christian romantic suspense that kept me riveted from page one. Don’t let the book length scare you off, there is something interesting or exciting happening the whole way through.
If you read Ashes to Ashes you know Luke Campbell’s backstory. And while I highly recommend reading that first, you can get by without it. If you did read it, you will feel so differently about Luke by the end. I was very disappointed in him after Ashes to Ashes.
In As You Were he is finally getting to join the army which he had been looking forward to for years. The only problem is he has to buddy enlist with a pop star who’s all glitz and glam and he can’t imagine that she’s taking this seriously. From day one Luke and Bobbie Lynn Canter do not get along and seem to bring out the worst in each other.
Throughout the book the two grow as individuals and gain a better understanding of each other, making their enemies to love relationship remind me of Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy of P&P.
The story not only follows their Army basic training, but how they respond to Bobbie Lynn’s stalker situation that she’d hoped to leave behind when she enlisted.
I loved learning about some of what those who enlist in the U.S. army go through and during this 250th year celebration of U.S. independence, it gave me a renewed appreciation for all of those who have gone before to make this country free. I also love the way Hannah brought these two seemingly polar opposite people to a place where love grew and I was rooting for them. It’s a good reminder of what great things God can do.
This book is perfect for anyone who loves action and suspense mixed with romance that is clean and has a foundation of faith.
Get As You Were here.
Read the Blurb:
She traded her guitar pick for dog tags, but can she ever exchange her legacy for freedom?
Country music sensation Bobbie Lynn Canter has a stalker. Having lost both her parents under unresolved circumstances, the young star isn’t taking any chances. In a move that shocks her adoring fans, Bobbie Lynn leaves her luxurious life in the spotlight for Army Basic Training. Yet even in this insulated world, trouble continues to come knocking, placing Bobbie Lynn and everyone she cares about in danger.
For years, Luke Campbell has dreamed of a military career, a goal he put in jeopardy during the search that brought his missing sister back home. Now given a chance to redeem his past, his military career begins with an assignment—and a buddy enlistment—he never wanted. He’s not fooled by the pretty pop star with glitter in her hair. It’s all a publicity stunt, and he wants nothing to do with her or the drama that comes in her wake.
As the weeks of their training unfold, Bobbie Lynn and Luke let their personal competition propel them to excellence. But will their rivalry blind them to the danger in their midst and the real potential for their future?
