Guest Blogger Q&A: Erica Dansereau
1. Erica, tell us a bit about yourself! Where you’re from, your family, hobbies, favorite things—anything fun you’d like to share! Thank you for having me! I’m a native Idahoan and reside in the Boise area with my husband, our two kids, and one dog. Outside of reading and writing, I love going on adventures, whether that be to a coffee shop, hiking trail, or travel destination. This world is full of so many amazing things, but a few of my top favorites would include: my family and friends, manatees, matcha, sunshine, and the ocean. Even though I live in a four-season state, I am absolutely a warm weather girl at heart.
2. How did you get started on your author journey? What first inspired you to start writing? Why do you write? Do you have a favorite verse for writing? Writing has been my creative outlet since childhood. As a young child, I constantly created stories or songs and knew that my ultimate dream in life was to be an author. As I grew, I began to realize that stories aren’t only fun, but that they hold immense power. Going through various struggles in life, I found myself in books. Writers spoke to me and offered me understanding, validation, and encouragement. Words, I learned, could act as a lifeline. As time went on, I began focusing on other paths, always writing in the background on my mind but never encouraged to fully pursue writing as a career. In my twenties, I finally gave myself permission to go after my dream and wrote several manuscripts, none of which are published today. But I really took the time to hone my craft and learn the why behind my books. My faith grew during this process, and God really worked in my heart. I write first to glorify Him and second to reach people and offer them the hope that I have in Him. Many of the books I read in my younger years validated my feelings but did little to offer my the truth and hope I so desperately needed. My goal is to meet people where they are, messy situations and all, and make them feel seen and understood while also steering their pain toward peace. The verse that speaks to me with writing is Proverbs 18:21. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” This goes beyond the words we speak with our mouths and includes those we pen with our hands. I want to speak life!
3. What is your favorite book that you’ve written and why. All of my books are so special to me, so this is a very difficult question. I think Come Forth as Gold, my debut, will forever be my favorite though. It’s my baby. It’s an exploration of faith, grief, and family. The emotions are honest and raw, as it was the space I allowed myself to navigate my own hardships. There are pieces of real family history in there, which makes it even more sentimental. My goal with that book was to be able to say, “Here. Read this,” in the event of anyone ever asking me the message I had for the world. In case that was the only book I ever wrote, I packed in the most important parts of my heart.
4. Tell us about what you are working on now and when you expect your next book to come out. I’m currently exploring a whole new genre and writing a fantasy series! This will be a bit different than my other projects as it takes place in a fictional world and will be more covert with its Christian themes and values compared to my other works. I’m still drafting and editing book one, but I’m hoping that possibly later this year or early 2027, I can have it in readers’ hands! We will see what the Lord decides to do!
