Guest Blogger Q & A: Drew Taylor
I'm excited to share with you the inside scoop on my friend Drew Taylor! We connected as authors through instagram several years ago, and I finally met her in person this winter. She's coming to visit me this week, and we're doing an Instagram live on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 6:30pm so be sure to tune in as we talk about Jane Austen and her impact on Christian fiction. Drew has some books with nods to Jane Austens works, so we have a bond there. Her stories are contemporary Christian fiction with romance that she calls Christian chick lit romance. It's not quite romcom, dives into heavier themes, has romance, and is filled with Jesus. Find out more about Drew below!
When did you feel called to become an author?
I’ve always loved stories. When I was younger, I wrote songs, poems, short stories, and plays. However, I didn’t feel called to actually write a book until 2018-2019. Even then, I had a difficult time nailing down an idea. I tried a dystopian and a historical thriller, but eventually, the idea for The Politics of Christmas (my debut) came to me in 2020. I knew it would be the novel I published as soon as I started writing it because I wanted to write a contemporary romance that fit in with the secular ones in terms of flawed characters, but had the redemptive love of Christ saturated throughout. (At that time, I’d really only read “too perfect” Christian romances that I just couldn’t relate to; I now know there are so many amazing and relatable Christian romances out there!) God gave me such peace about writing my story, though I didn’t know if I’d write another one after that. Here we are, many books later, haha. I still hope to write within other genres one day, but as of now, God has me writing Christian Chick-Lit romance, which I love doing.
In what ways has your faith influenced your journey as a writer?
My faith has influenced every aspect of my journey as a writer. From the beginning, I knew whatever I wrote would bring glory and honor to God. I knew I wanted the name of Jesus in my stories. And I knew I wanted them to be realistic portrayals of sin, failure, and the need for salvation and grace. I’ve clung to that every step of the way, refining my faith and my craft with every new book. That’s the beautiful thing about this career—the growing.
Which of your leading characters would you say is your favorite? Why?
Oh, this is difficult, haha. I love them all for many different reasons. If I’m forced to pick a favorite, I would have to say Lucy May Spence from The Designated Date. I wrote her when I was going through a really difficult time, and I poured so much of my depression, anxiety, and struggles into her character. Because of her, I survived things I thought would break me, and I know she’s pointing others to Christ as she consistently pointed me back to Christ. There’s a lot of “me” in her, which, as authors, we tend to do. But Lucy may is me to an extreme. I needed her to be. She was my outlet to say the things I couldn’t say out loud to people at the time.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?
Outside of spending time with family and friends, of course, I love watching K-dramas and C-dramas. I learn a lot about storytelling through these avenues. I also love eating, so exploring the many different local restaurants in my home state is really fun. I’m learning how to garden now that I’m back in Mississippi, and I look forward to making all the yummy homemade things with the produce of my labors in the near future! Finally, I really enjoy going for drives down backroads or down the beach. Especially at sunset. Cliche, I guess, but whatever, haha.
