Guest Blogger Q & A : Heather Wood

This week I have Heather Wood joining the blog! Heather is the editor for several of my books and a fellow Christian Mommy writer. I absolutely love how her books mix history, faith, and romance. And her books are heavy on the history in a good way--a way that makes you want to know more about real people and the past. Her books are ones I often recommend. Read below to see what Heather has to say about her writing.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself! Where you’re from, your family, hobbies, favorite things—anything fun you’d like to share!

I was raised in a Christian homeschooling family outside of Chicago and got my BA at Appalachian Bible College. I live in Virginia now and love it! I'm always taking my four homeschooled kids to historic sites, camping in state parks, or on day trips to enjoy the mountains or beach. I've always loved to read Christian fiction and American history books.

2. When did you feel called to become an author? Why do you write? Do you have a favorite writing verse?

I didn't realize that God had created me to be an author until I'd written a couple books and then looked back at my life and realized all the pieces of it were pointing to this. I write historical fiction because the same God who carried our ancestors through their fears and trials is the same God walking with us through the same fears and the same trials. That bolsters our faith today.

My life verse is 2 Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

3.  What is your favorite book that you’ve written and why?

I like my different books for different reasons and because each of them represents a period in my life and what God was teaching me at the time. I do have a soft spot for Until We All Run Free because of the message of overcoming sin in our lives as believers and the characters are readers' favorites.

4. Tell us about what you are working on now and when you expect your next book to come out.

I'm working on the third book in the Gathering of Mercies series, which will tell the story of Henry and Sinead, the Young siblings' parents from the Finding Home series.

5. Share your website and newsletter links, and a picture of you that you would like me to use.

Sewing Hope is Heather's most recent book. Read the blurb:

Encounter the True Story of Abolitionist Editor Elijah Lovejoy

Patrick Gallagher has done all he can—and it hasn’t been enough. Now in his mid-thirties, he battles discouragement over his inability to make a difference in eradicating slavery. Longing to regain the hope and passion that once fueled his calling, Patrick sets out from his home in Maryland to meet his hero, Elijah Lovejoy, an anti-slavery editor in Missouri.

Anna Markland actively serves her community and those traveling on the Underground Railroad. But her efforts feel small when she is constantly beset by headaches that leave her prostrate for days on end. When the enigmatic Mr. Gallagher enters her life, she discovers their hearts beat with the same dreams. Yet Anna knows that if she allowed him to pursue her, her weakness would hinder him from reaching his potential as an abolitionist leader.

In the free states along his path, Patrick discovers that the Black and abolitionist communities are anything but free. Violent mobs, hateful rhetoric, and spineless politicians create a tinderbox of danger. What will he sacrifice for the cause he’s devoted his life to—and will God finally use him to make the difference he longs to see in society?
