Review of Reverie by Drew Taylor
Drew has a way of making hard topics fun and she has done it again here. The vacation vibes with Bora Bora make me want to head to the beach. She also showcases the fact that Christians aren’t perfect. They may desire to follow God’s instructions, but the execution isn’t always straightforward or pretty.
Drew does give content warnings regarding the topics of love, lust, and boundaries and please take them seriously. There are quite a few sexual innuendos, because that is something the main characters are working through. She also warns about an attempted kidnapping, some on page violence, on page panic attacks, and struggles with depression. Most of it is flashbacks, so it doesn’t feel too intense. But fair warning, the bonus epilogue does have a scene that feels intense and a little scary, so if you’re sensitive to that please be aware. Because of these things I would only recommend this book for 18 and up.
I have to add: Ladies, please don’t invite a stranger you just met into your bungalow, don’t believe everything he says, and definitely don’t make out with him. This is a made up story and this part of the storyline sets it up for our main character to reveal her internal struggles with lust and self control. Also, if you struggle with lust and boundaries, don’t go places that make it easy for you to make out in private. It’s hard to stop a moving train.
I enjoyed this book and the creative storyline and recommend it if you like a book that keeps you guessing with a fun and twisty plot, has beaches, has insta love, and or want a book that will help you sort through thoughts on relationship boundaries for single Christians. Just be forewarned this is not a Romcom like Drew’s other books, though it does have funny and swoony moments.

Book Blurb:
What if you could experience the love of a lifetime twice?
Esme Jenkins has a story to tell.
After being left at the altar, she sets off for her honeymoon in Bora Bora alone, on a mission to find a certain spark to hoist her from the dregs of her insipid life. That spark blazes into her world in the form of a shirtless, giant of a man rescuing her from an attempted kidnapping. When the offender escapes, Esme’s savior vows to stay by her side until the creep is caught. As the days tick by, the pair fall into a whirlwind romance Esme never expected to experience.
But that’s just fiction.
Because when Esme Jenkins was in Bora Bora, she lost three years of her memory in a freak accident, including ones made during that week on the island. One year later, she’s seeking to publish the story that won’t vacate her brain. The serendipity? The agent seeking to represent her looks identical to her male main character.
Reverie is a chick-lit romance novel teeming with heart, hope, healing, and humor with a hard-fought happily-ever-after that will occupy your daydreams for weeks to come.
