The Hart of Christmas Book Review

I was able to read this great book before it was released, and if you are looking for a fairly quick holiday romance read that is fun but has substance, then this is your book! Check out my review.

The Hart of Christmas is a cozy, sweet & clean romance/comedy that draws you in from page 1 and has enough depth to leave you feeling satisfied. I don’t know much about hockey and that didn’t hold my enjoyment back one bit.

🎄

Millie Jane and her ex-crush/enemy, Dex, get snowed in together just before Christmas. Their past has created a wedge between them that Dex is determined to bridge. This book has all the Christmas feels with homemade Christmas decorations, hot chocolate by the fire, old Christmas cartoons, and hymns. It also includes a touching arc of forgiveness and healing.

🎄

Latisha Sexton does a great job weaving in Dex and Millie Jane’s backstory and bringing it all together at just the right moment for a fuller understanding of how they ended up in this place both literally and figuratively. She shows how a single incident can shape our future.

🎄

The main characters’ chemistry is obvious from the moment they lock eyes and Latisha doesn’t hold back in bringing them to their HEA.

🎄

One of my favorite characters was Millie Jane’s sweet and spunky grandmother. I also love the way the characters seriously consider what God would have them do with their lives. This book is just what you need this winter as you curl up with a blanket and your favorite hot beverage. It’s a fairly quick read that will leave you wanting to spend more time getting to know Dex, Millie, and her sweet grandmother.

Book Description:

Sometimes life takes a detour...

Millie Jane Brooks’ dream of stardom falls apart when she can’t catch a break in Nashville. With her tail between her legs, she sulks back home to spend a few days at her best friend’s vacant house before facing the truth—she might not be cut out for a singing career. But Millie Jane isn’t the only one seeking solitude and when her high school enemy crashes her perfectly laid plans of escape, she's faced with more than just her current failures.

Dex Hart is looking forward to a quiet recovery at his step-sister’s house after a season-ending injury halts his hockey career. With questions about his future looming over him, he’s hoping to find clarity over the holidays. But when he gets snowed in with Millie, the girl who got away, old feelings rise to the surface, stealing any chance of rest.

Millie Jane's heart is guarded after Dex’s betrayal years ago, but Dex has missed her sassy remarks and sparkling eyes too much to let the past ruin this second chance at love. Dex is determined to help her see that God might have another plan for her life... and his.

Can Dex break the walls around her heart in time for Christmas? Or will she shut him out and run away like she did all those years ago?
