Review of The Valkyrie by Carrie Cotten
The Valkyrie is the 4th amazing book in the Huntress saga by Carrie Cotten. Just when I think she’s written the best one, she comes out with another. This story tells a beautiful tale of healing and forgiveness for past trauma, alongside a sweet romance.
Set in medieval Norway, Isa has recently returned home after being kidnapped and abused for a year. At home she finds it hard to feel safe and normal but worries about her mother, the shield maiden, who has problems of her own.
Reider lands in her life in a most unusual way and both of their lives are forever changed.
Like the other books in the series, this one weaves in the gospel beautifully and naturally. Both of the main characters begin in different places with their faith and are confronted and challenged by the God who forgives and heals broken hearts.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series. It’s best enjoyed in order and this is the fourth book, but you can get by with reading just The Raven. But don’t just get by. Read them all.

Can the truth-speaker’s promise of life from death really be for them?
After a year in captivity, Isa Bjorndottir feels dead inside. Restored to her mother, the Shieldmaiden of Volfsby, Isa watches life happening all around her, yet wants nothing more than to avoid every look or touch, even from those she loves. With her plan for adventure gone horribly wrong, she lives locked away in fear and shame—and then a final secret destroys even her tenuous peace.
As the fatherless son of an outcast, Reider Gunnersen knows plenty about shame. An outlaw on the run, he hopes to escape this land that’s brought nothing but death at every turn. His chance for that new start comes after a harrowing rescue, when he is given an unexpected assignment to guard a young woman who wants to hide as much as he does.
As one challenge after the next threatens his ability to protect Isa, Reider soon wonders if his presence is only putting her in greater danger. When his past catches up with him, will it destroy her only chance at a future?
