Review of The Raven by Carrie Cotten

The Raven is here! This is another epic Christian medieval (Vikings) romance by Carrie Cotten. It is the third in the series and I highly recommend starting with The Huntress and then The Viking. Each of the stories is a beautifully written tale.

In The Raven, the heroine, Revna, is filled with darkness and out for revenge against the Vikings who stole her people. Aksel is a Viking who’s lived an easy life despite having a father who is always disappointed in him. When the two meet they simultaneously bring out the worst and best in one another.

Both characters struggle with discerning right from wrong and truth from lies. Once they begin working together, the truths they find turn their lives upside down.

The banter between the two is top notch and a fun respite from the intense action. Carrie’s descriptions of settings and characters bring the story to life so perfectly you’ll feel like you’re there. Yet the best part of this book is the message of redemption and the internal battle the characters have as they grow in faith.

This book is for anyone looking to be transported to an ancient land filled with battles, faith, and romance. Don’t miss it.

Synopsis:

Will the darkness that hides her finally destroy her?

Revna has spent her whole life thirsting for justice. When the chance to avenge her murdered mother and enslaved sister is denied her, she finds an even greater cause in gathering her people from their Norse captors and sending them home. Using threats and violence as her shield, she has built a seemingly invincible and invisible persona of terror. Then the drunken son of a chieftain discovers that the much-feared “Raven” is really just a slight teenage girl.

Unable to please his angry father or protect his villagers from extortion and need, Aksel turns to endless mugs of mead to drown his despair. But a fierce little bird turns all that upside down. With her unequivocal purpose and unparalleled bravery, Revna rescues him from his meaningless existence but at a staggering cost neither of them expects.

Revna and Aksel will sacrifice everything to free the slaves, but who will free them from the bondage of their pasts and the truth behind their disguises?

This is Book 3 in The Huntress series
